Four killed, 11 missing in Rasuwa landslide

A landslide in Rasuwa district

Kathmandu, July 26

At least four persons died whereas 11 persons are missing when a landslide buried a police post and a hotel in Timure of Rasuwa on Thursday morning.

The landslide triggered by incessant rainfall buried buildings in Timure, Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, near the Nepal-China border.

Chief District Officer Krishna Paudel says those killed and missing are yet to be identified.

He suspects that the victims include not only locals, but also passengers and traders from other parts of the country as it is a vibrant trade hub.

The official says the landslide has buried some containers and trucks.

The rainfall has also blocked roads at various points; therefore carrying out rescue and relief operation has also become challenging, according to Paudel.

“Nevertheless, we have accelerated searched and rescue operations.”

The incident site is 25 kilometre away from the district headquarters Dhunche, and even closer to the Rasuwagadhi border point.
