Former Nepal Police DIG Parbati Thapa has formally announced that she has entered politics.
Thapa has joined the Upendra Yadav-led Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum, the party’s vice-president Renu Yadav said. Thapa, who recently retired from the force, is the first woman to be shortlisted for the post of Inspector General, he highest position in Nepal Police.
The party has not decided what position to give to Thapa, who even filed a case against the nomination of her junior Upendra Kanta Aryal to the position. Thapa has, however, remained mum about her political ambitions.
Thapa follows in the footsteps of former DIG Nawa Raj Silwal, who joined the NCP recently o be elected to the federal parliament from Lalitpur-1.
