Everest climbing opens for the season as Nepali climbers fix ropes

Kathmandu, May 14

A team of high altitude Nepali climbers have reached the top of Mount Everest opening a climbing route for foreign and national climbers on Tuesday afternoon, say officials from the Department of Tourism.

The team led by Siddhi Bahadur Tamang from Dolakha reached the summit at 1:45 pm on Tuesday.

The team included experienced climbers, namely: Pasdawa Sherpa, Dorji Gyalgen Sherpa, Pasang Dawa Sherpa, Dawa Nurbu Sherpa, Ming Dorje Sherpa, Aang Phurba Sherpa and Sangbu Bhote Lama.

The eight member team laid the ropes till the summit and it has officially opened the climbing of Mount Everest this season.

The Department informs that over 378 climbers including 365 foreigners from 41  teams have obtained climbing permits for Mt Everest this spring season. The number of permits issued this time is the highest for a season since the government began regulating the climbing.

Most of them will be pushing for the summit in the next few days.
