EPS Korea: Candidates need to take skill test along with language from 2020

Kathmandu, June 24

The South Korean government is preparing to introduce a skill test also along with the existing language test to select migrant workers from Nepal under its Employment Permit System.

The skill test will come into effect from 2020, according to the EPS Korea Section under the Nepali Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security.

In the industrial category, the skill test will contribute 20 per cent to the total score of the candidate while the 80 per cent section is covered by the language test. In the agricultural category, the ratio will be 30:70.

The Section’s spokesperson Shobhakhar Bhandari says the 2019 test, however, will be held in the existing format.

The Section had tried to introduce the new system from 2019 itself, but it was deferred by a year owing to lack of preparations.

The Seoul government recruits migrant workers from 16 countries, and such two kinds of tests have already been introduced in most of the countries.
