Election Commission turning blind eye to ruling coalition’s excesses: UML

Kathmandu, June 20

The main opposition, CPN-UML, has accused the Election Commission of turning a blind eye to the ‘excesses of the ruling coalition’ as the country heads to the second round of local elections.

The ruling coalition is resorting to violence and breaching the code of conduct, but the commission has remained silent on the issue, the party said.

In a statement, the party’s General Secretary Iswhwar Pokharel has called on the commission to strictly implement its cod of conduct. Pokharel said Congress cadres murdered a UML supporter in Bajura and Maoists attacked party members in Darchula.

He added that the ruling coalition abused power to shield the accused in the Bajura murder. The party criticised Home Minister Janardan Sharma for taking part in an election rally in Banke against the code of conduct.
