Kathmandu, April 5

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel says he will take action against private schools which force students and parents to pay more than the government-set standards.

The Minister made the commitment as three major student unions submitted a memorandum to him demanding the action.

“We have introduced a new standard about the school fees. Those violating it will be punished,” he said.

Meanwhile, the student unions affiliated to CPN-UML, Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre also demanded that the Education Act be amended to remove the provision of 75 per cent reservation to temporary teachers.

In response, Pokharel said he was committed to promoting involvement of young blood in the education sector; therefore he would consider the demand.
