DPM Nidhi calls on UML Chair KP Oli, lodges objection over seditious amendment remarks

Kathmandu, March 3

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi had a meeting with CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli at the latter’s residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur, on Friday.

During the meeting, DPM and Home Nidhi said he made no remarks that encouraged disruptive activities targeting programmes of any particular party. It should be noted that UML leaders have accused DPM and Home Minister of seeking disruption of the UML’s nationwide Mechni-Mahakali Campaign.

For his part, Oli maintained: Some friends have said you made comments against the Mechi-Mahakali Campaign. But I could not believe you made such remarks.

Specifically on Tuesday, the UML had issued a press release accusing Nidhi of making objectionable remarks. The release had accused Nidhi of making a statement that sought to drive away UML cadres taking part in the nationwide campaign.

At a programme that Nepal Women’s Association had organised in Lahan, Nidhi had called for an exposure campaign against the UML, pointing that it had come in the way of Constitution amendment.

During Friday’s talks, Nidhi objected to Oli’s purported remarks in which he described the Constitution amendment proposal as seditious.

Nidhi, according to his privat secretariat, pointed that Oli himself had signed on a proposal that sought to redraw provincial boundaries.

The secretariat quoted Nidhi as saying: The government has forwarded the same proposal in the House. How can it be seditious?

In his reply, Oli said the proposed Constitution amendment is not in the national interest. He clarified that UML’s official documents have not described the proposal as seditious.

At the Balkot meeting, DPM and Home Minister Nidhi said he has directed security agencies to make adequate security arrangements during the UML campaign.
