Dhurmus and Suntali’s New Year gift to Musahars: Integrated Model Settlement

Bardibas, April 14

A total of 50 houses built as part of the Integrated Model Settlement project run by the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation were handed over to Musahar families in Bardibas on the occasion of the Nepali New Year 2074.

Actors Madan Krishna Shrestha and Haribansha Acharya, handed over the key of the main door of the settlement to the settlement management committee chair Biltu Sada Musahar.

The settlement, built at a cost of Rs 50 million, has 50 independent houses, one community building, two public toilets, a view tower, a children’s park and a temple. The foundation is the brainchild of Sitaram Kattel, popularly known as Dhurmus, and Kunjana Ghimire of Suntali fame.

Acharya and Shrestha had on January 9 laid the foundation stone for the settlement. Arjun Neupane, project manager of the foundation said the settlement was built with financial support from Nepalis abroad.

Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Vice-Chancellor Dr Jeevraj Pokharel also reaffirmed his commitment to launch livelihood programme for the Musahars in the locality for their economic advancement.
