Deuba: IGP appointment none of my business

Kathmandu, February 12

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba says he had no role in the appointment of Jaya Bahadur Chand as the new police chief.

Chand was appointed to the post by the government on Sunday morning. However, the Supreme Court stayed the appointment within hours of the government’s formal announcement.

Deuba’s remarks come as sources claim he backed Chand, and even threatened to leave the ruling coaltion if his choice for the post was not given the job.

In a statement on Sunday afternoon, Deuba said that the appointment of IGP was the prerogative of the Council of ministers, and as chief of the Nepali Congress, it was none of his business.
