A leader engaged in the negotiations among three parties of Panchayat era royalists says the proposed unification among the parties is not thwarted yet.

Deepak Bohora, a leader of Pashupati Shamsher Rana-led RPP-Democratic, claims his party will unify with Kamal Thapa-led RPP and Prakash Chandra Lohani-led Unified RPP-Nationalist within next three weeks.

He says Thapa and Rana have agreed on most of the issues whereas conversations are underway with Lohani as well.

Though it was reported on Sunday afternoon that Thapa and Rana would announce the merger on Monday, some leaders had later claimed the unification bid was thwarted as they had differences over the view on monarchy and the unified party’s election symbol.

But, Bohora says, “The talks are not spoiled yet. We have not halted the conversation.”

He adds, “We have decided to postpone the discussion on election symbol and let the next general convention to be held within one year make the final decision.”

According to Bohora, the announcement is getting delayed just because Lohani-led party is yet to formally discuss the unification process in its central committee.

Arguing that the merger is a must for the formation of an alternative nationalist force, he says, “I don’t know why there was a rumour about breakdown of talks.”
