Kathmandu, January 18
The Election Commission says the government decision to fix temporary capitals of seven provinces has increased security threats to the National Assembly elections scheduled for February 7.
Speaking at a programme in Kathmandu today, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yasav urged the government and political parties to make initiatives so as to minimise the threats.
Yadav was hinting at protests launched by various groups of locals in many cities demanding provincial capitals.
He also told poll officials to cooperate and coordinate with local political leaders to ensure that the poll schedule would not be affected by the challenges.
In another context, Yadav said the Commission would use computers to count votes of National Assembly elections. He expressed his hope that both the government and political parties would comply with the election code of conduct.
