Deadline for receiving post-quake reconstruction grant extended till mid-April

File: Reconstruction work is going on in Gorkha.

Kathmandu, February 9

The government on Friday extended the deadline for receiving the second tranche of post-earthquake reconstruction grant for the quake survivors till mid-April.

A meeting of the National Reconstruction Authority Steering Committee made the decision, according to the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Yubaraj Bhusal.

Earlier, the term had expired in mid-January. Bhusal says the deadline was extended as not doing so could deprive many quake survivors of the government support.

Meanwhile, the survivors can receive the third tranche till mid-July, according to him.

The Authority says 233,677 families are eligible for the second instalment of grant while total 671,577 had received the first tranche. Only 55,,577 will receive the third tranche.

So far, around 100,000 families have rebuilt their houses and the number will go upto 400,000 by mid-July, the end of current fiscal year.

The number of families losing the residences to the disastrous quake is 767,705, according to the Authority.
