Dalai Lama’s flag on top of Everest: Govt begins probe into event threatening One China policy

Kathmandu, May 24

Reports have said some unidentified person placed a flag of Free Tibet leader Dalai Lama on the top of Mount Everest.

The government has considered this event as a threat to its commitment to One China Policy and begun investigation.

A source at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation informs that the flag is still waving on the roof of the world and climbers on the way to the summit have been asked to remove the flag.

Director General at the Department of Tourism Dinesh Bhattarai says government authorities are searching for the climber responsible for the act. However, the authorities are still clueless about his/her identity.

It has been suspected that the climber might have approached the summit through the North Col of Tibet side.

Each climber has to undergo a strict security check before summitting the highest peak of the world.

Meanwhile, the security check has been boosted up at the Everest Base Camp following the incident.
