Complete Bhairahawa international airport construction in next 9 months: House panel

Kathmandu, October 12

The Public Accounts Committee in Parliament on Thursday directed the government to complete the construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa of Rupandehi district by the end of current fiscal year, that is mid-July 2018.

A meeting of the Committee held today concluded that the pace the construction work was going on was not satisfactory; hence, directed the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to expedite works to meet the target.

Chief of the Committee Dor Prasad Upadhyaya says the Committee made the conclusion after consulting responsible officials and monitoring the project site.

Meanwhile, the panel also directed the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Supplies to ensure smooth supply of essential construction materials.

The Ministry of Finance has been directed to manage compensation for the land acquired for the construction.

The national pride project is being constructed with a financial support of the Asian Development Bank.
