A Chinese team is coming to Nepal to conduct a detailed study about the exploration of petroleum product extraction prospects in various places of Nepal.

The team is coming to Nepal to explore the possibilities after a Nepali team from the Department of Mines and Geology (DoMG) signed an agreement with the China Geological Survey for the aforementioned purpose in Beijing on March 1.

As per the agreement, a Chinese technical team will come to Nepal within May and start drilling and exploration of mines in Palpa, Nepalgunj, Surkhet and Dailekh.

According to Deputy Director General of the Department, Sudhir Rajaure, the technical team will determine the types and amount of petroleum products located in the respective areas and possibilities of commercial exploration of the minerals, among other issues.

On March 18, 2016, a high-level government committee had directed the Ministry of Industry to initiate the process of exploring petroleum products in 10 blocks located in the Tarai and Chure areas and lay the groundwork for exploration of petroleum products in the country.

However, there was a delay in work due to various reasons.
