Kathmandu, January 27

China has taken an immediate initiative to upgrade the Syaphrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road section of Rasuwa district. The road is crucial to upscale the operation the Rasuwagadhi customs point between Nepal and China.

The Department of Roads of Nepal says the Beijing government has already issued a call for tenders to upgrade the road.

Kubesh Kumar Sharma, chief of the Development Assistance Implementation Division of the Department, says the Department recently approved a detailed project report for the upgrading, after which China called for the applications.

China is planning to widen this 16 kilometre road to two lanes.

As another alternative road being used for transportation currently is very narrow, containers importing goods from China via Rasuwagadhi border point have to spend hours in traffic jam.

However, the upgrading work is challenging given the difficult terrain, according to the Department.

Sharma informs that China is upgrading the road at its own cost as a grant assistance to Nepal.
