Arson at Sanothimi Campus chief’s office chamber, FSU polls to take place on schedule

Bhaktapur, February 28

Cadres of the CPN-UML-aligned ANNFSU and ANNISU-R (Biplav) allegedly torched the office chamber of Sanothimi Campus chief in Bhaktapur on Tuesday. The campus administration, though, said it will not put Free Student Union elections on hold despite the arson.

Birendra Basnet, general secretary of the ANNISU-R (Prachanda) and outgoing president of the FSU Sanothimi Campus chapter, accused ANNFSU and ANNISU-R (Biplav) of resorting to arson last night after it became clear that they will lose FSU polls.

Nepali Congress-led Nepal Student Union and ANNISU-R (Prachanda) had formed a joint panel for the polls to counter the alliance of ANNISU-R (Biplav) and ANNFSU. Ramesh Khadka is heading the joint panel, whereas Lal Bahadur Rokaya is heading the alliance.

All papers related to elections are safe despite the arson, campus chief Ram Chandra Ghimire said, adding that FSU elections will take place in the campus on schedule.
