Araniko Highway transporters resort to strike against new competitor

Passengers have been hit hard due to a transport strike, on Araniko Highway, on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

Kathmandu, April 4

As many as 11 committees of transport entrepreneurs providing services on the Araniko Highway have not operated their buses on the road today, protesting the government decision to issue a permit to the new company on the same route.

Consequently, thousands of passengers in Bhaktapur, Kavre and Sindhupalchok districts have been stranded halfway.

Earlier, they had served an ultimatum to withdraw the decision to let Mayur Yatayat ply the road. They had also submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Offices of Bhaktapur and Kavre districts demanding that the new association be restricted from launching its business.

But, since the government did not pay any heed to the demand, the entrepreneurs resorted to the strike.
