After the government’s ambitious Melamchi Water Supply project cancelled the contract with CMC, Tanahun Hydropower Project has also scrapped the contract with the Italian builder.

Like in Melamchi, the company had let the hydropower project halfway few months back. The project had given an ultimatum of 28 days to return to work, but the company did not make any contact till the Friday deadline, according to Pradeep Kumar Thike, Managing Director of the Project.

“The termination process has already started,” he says, “We will send a termination letter to the company soon.”

The official informs that the Project will make another call for the tenders soon. He claims the Project has already started conversations with the supporting agency, Asian Development Bank, so as to issue the call at the earliest.

The government had signed a Rs 20 billion contract with the company to carry out preliminary structural works of the hydropower project.
