Kathmandu, September 25

Advance ticket booking for the upcoming festivals Bada Dashain, Tihar, and Chhat will open on Saturday. The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) decided to manage the heavy traffic expected during the festive season.

Tuesday’s meeting, which included representatives from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Nepal Police, Traffic Police, and transport entrepreneurs, focused on ensuring smooth travel for passengers in and out of the Kathmandu Valley.

DoTM Director and Spokesperson Ishwori Dutta Paneru announced that public transport providers have agreed to open advance booking for medium and long-distance travel. Online booking is encouraged for efficiency, and only ticket holders can board buses.

The meeting also decided that heavy-duty vehicles, except those carrying essential goods, will be restricted from Narayanghat to Kathmandu from October 3 to 17. Road permits for passenger vehicles will be available nationwide during the Dashain festival period.

Strict measures will be enforced to prevent unauthorised ticket sales, monitor driver health, and curb intoxication. Citizen Help Desks will be set up at various locations in coordination with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to assist passengers.
