A ward in Solukhumbu likely to boycott June 28 polls

Locals stage a protest in Tingla village against the decision to annex the village into the Necha Salyan Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu district.

Solukhumbu, June 21

An entire ward in Necha Salyan Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu district is likely to boycott local level elections scheduled for June 28 protesting the annexation of their village into the Rural Municipality.

The villagers in Tingla have been protesting the decision to make it a part of Necha Salyan.

No one has decided to contest the polls in ward 6 of Necha Salyan. Earlier, three persons had filed nominations for the post of ward chairperson, but they withdrew the names citing different reasons.

Consequently, the village will not have any representative in the new local government, according to Returning Officer Ananda Raj Panta.

Earlier, Nepali Congress lawmaker Bal Bahadur KC had forced his cadre, Tanka Karki, for file the nomination. Along with Karki, Gyan Bahadur Rai and Harka Bahadur Bishwakarma had filed nominations as independent candidates.

However, owing to pressure from the locals, they withdrew the names yesterday.
