60-year-old dies while ‘fleeing’ quake in Ramechhap, child hurt

A 60-year-old died on Monday morning while fleeing in panic after a quake that struck Ramechhap district and other parts of Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley.

While fleeing after the jolt at 9.22 am, Gyan Kumar Tamang (60) of Purana Gaun, Gelu VDC-6, fell off a wall and died on ht spot, Shyam Lal Tamang, another local resident, said.

Forty-five minutes after the magnitude-4.6 quake epicentred in Sunarpani struck, another (4.7-magnitude) quake epicentred in Ramechhap shook Ramechhap and other parts of the country, according to National Seismological Centre. The 60-year-old had taken ill for quite some time.

A child, Sahil Katuwal, suffered injuries when the quake struck district headquarters Manthali. He was taken to Kathmandu for further treatment after first aid at a local health facility.
