Rautahat, Augugst 13

Six persons died as a flood inundating a road swept away a jeep carrying a pregnant woman to hospital in Rajpur of Rautahat district on Sunday morning.

SP Yagya Binod Pokharel says the jeep with Indian number plate was going to the Rajapur Hospital from Laukaha carrying the pregnant woman for delivery. The driver of the vehicle could not know that the road was inundated, so the jeep submerged at around 3 am today, police say.

Though four men and two women died, the jeep driver and another person managed to run away to safety, according to local Arzu Alam.

Most places of the district are receiving rainfall for last four days.

Meanwhile, the flooded Lalbakaiya River destroyed its embankments at many points in the district.

Security personnel and locals have been carrying out rescue operations to take people from inundated areas to safety.
