50 pc of Nepal’s budget should go to Karnali says Chief Minister Shahi

Kathmandu, March 22

Karnali Province’s Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi says half of the country’s budget should go towards development projects in his state.

Shahi, who was speaking at a program in Kathmandu, said that if the Ministry of Finance allocates half of its budget to Karnali, the whole country, and not just the province, would become prosperous.

Shahi said that Karnali was rich in natural resources and the province required investment at a massive scale to fully utilise them. The chief minister also proposed that Karnali be developed as an ‘organic’ province.

The Chief Minister, however, said that the main challenge his government was facing was related to law and finance. “We don’t have the necessary pieces of legislation nor the money to implement our plans,” he added.
