Nepali Congress will play the role of constructive opposition: Gachchhadar

Kathmandu, March 11

Nepali Congress’ deputy leader in Parliament Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar says decided not to vote in favour of the Prime Minister’s confidence motion as the presence of a strong opposition is vital in parliamentary democracy.

In his address to a meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday, Gachchhadar ruled out the possibility of the Nepali Congress supporting the UML government. “However, the party will support the government’s action plan for economic prosperity,” he added

Stating that the NC’s stance in Parliament as the main opposition would be based on the government activities. He wished the Prime Minister for a successful tenure.

Gachchhadar went on to say that the opposition would not tolerate any activity that goes against constitutional and democratic norms and values. “We will play the role of a constructive opposition.” According to him, the constitution has empowered the people. He expressed happiness over successful completion of the three-tier elections and said this was significant in view of the efforts to fully implement the new consitution.
