Dr KC, govt ink deal, hunger strike to be called off on Saturday

Medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC and the Health Ministry have reached an agreement to address the demands of the senior orthopedic, who was on his 12th hunger strike, late on Friday night.

Dr KC, who is facing contempt of court charges, and Health Minister Deepak Bohora signed a five-point agreement to end the hunger strike on Saturday.

As part of the five-point agreement, the government will form a committee to recommend members to the Medical Education Commission, and allow Dr Jagadish Prasad Agrawal to continue as the TU Institute of Medicine’s dean.

However, the agreement is silent on the issue of Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli, whom Dr KC has accused of being corrupt and a member of the ‘mafia.’ Dr KC had been demanding that Parajuli resign from his position. Dr KC began is 12th hunger strike earlier this week after the Supreme Court reinstated IoM dean Sashi Sharma, who was removed from his job following pressure from Dr KC and his supporters, you accused Sharma of misconduct.
