Kathmandu, December 31
While the mother party is celebrating the National Reconciliation Day commemorating a deed of its founder BP Koirala, the Nepali Congress’ student wing, Nepal Students Union, is seen heading towards a split.
Two rival factions of the Union–led by President Nain Singh Mahar and Manoj Mani Acharya–have organised separate functions to mark the day. They have invited different leaders to attend the function.
Mahar has invited party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to his function to be organised at the City Hall whereas Acharya faction is hosting a function at Tri-Chandra College inviting leaders Ram Chandra Poudel, Shashanka Koirala and Prakash Man Singh.
Meanwhile, Acharya has warned that he will form a parallel central committee if Mahar’s team does not correct its leadership style. Acharya has accused Mahar of leading the organisation on his whims.
Earlier 10 days ago, President Deuba had assured that he would resolve the conflict within next 10 days.
