Kathmandu, November 14
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Kamal Thapa says the government will soon unveil a new plan to construct the ambitious Budhigandaki Hydropower Project.
The government on Monday had scrapped an agreement signed by the previous Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government with China’s Gezhouba Group claiming the deal involved a number of irregularities and the contract was made imprudently.
A day after the decision, Thapa tweets to say that the project has been counted as a national pride project and the government will hence prepare and launch new plans within some days to finish the works as soon as possible.
Apparently, Thapa wants to address concerns raised by experts that such decision to backtrack from already finalised deals might give a negative message to the international investment community.
