Kathmandu, September 24
Joint General Secretary of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, Mirja Alsad Beg, has defected to the CPN-UML on Sunday.
UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli welcomed him to the party at a function organised at the Central Office in Dhumbarahi of Kathmandu today.
Just this morning, Manoj Kumar Singh, the son of late Ram Raja Prasad Singh, who is considered Nepal’s first republican voice, had joined the UML.
Meanwhile, Oli has said the party’s strength in the Madhesh region has increased with the entry of new members in the party.
He said his party’s votes in the region did not come down though the party was defeated in Province 2 in recent polls. He said the “technical defeats” were because of an unannounced alliance of other four major parties against the UML.
He said the party was not demotivated due to the election results as the party was still the biggest force in the country.
