CPN-UML Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam says he wants his party and the CPN-Maoist Centre contest upcoming provincial and federal elections jointly.

In an opinion article published on Onlinekhabar, Gautam writes that unity among leftist forces is a need of the hour in order to bring in a socioeconomic transformation oriented towards socialism.

“I want to call leaders of CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre, CPN-ML, Rastriya Janamorcha, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and CPN-United to form a consensual alliance and contest with a single symbol in polls to be held before January next year.”

“If the alliance gets majority votes,” he further suggests, “A consensual joint government will be formed and the alliance will guide the government.”

In the article, Gautam has established the UML and the Nepali Congress as major political forces of the country, arguing these two parties should lead major political lines in the future.

“Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are arch-rivals on the basis of ideologies, philosophies and programmes,” he explains, “Let an alliance be formed among political parties which have similar ideologies, philosophies and programmes with the Nepali Congress.”

Gautam, however, says the competition should be healthy and friendly and the government should be run by embracing norms and values of competitive multiparty democracy after the polls.

He argues such a polarisation will solve all problems seen in the constitution implementation and lead the nation towards prosperity.
