Five Madhesh-based parties announce merger

Mahantha Thakur-led Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party, Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhawana Party, Mahendra Yadav-led Rastriya Madhesh Samajbadi Party, Sharad Singh Bhandari-led Tarai Madhesh Sadbhawana Party and Raj Kishor Yadav-led Madheshi Janaadhikar Forum-Republican announce the unification into the Rastriya Janata Party, in Kathmandu, on Thursday, April 20, 2017.

 

Kathmandu, April 20

Major five Madhesh-based parties on Thursday formally announced their unification and establishment of the new Rastriya Janata Party.

Organising a special function in Dilli Bazaar of Kathmandu this afternoon, Mahantha Thakur-led Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party, Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhawana Party, Mahendra Yadav-led Rastriya Madhesh Samajbadi Party, Sharad Singh Bhandari-led Tarai Madhesh Sadbhawana Party and Raj Kishor Yadav-led Madheshi Janaadhikar Forum-Republican said they were a single party now.

The new party also made public its three-colour flag and election symbol (umbrella) today itself.

Earlier, on Wednesday late night, the five parties had agreed to merge.
